Global Business Development Manager - World Headquarters, Aiken, SC
The Global Business Development Manager (BDM) will report to the Director, Global Business Development based in AGY World Headquarters Aiken SC. This individual has one of the most important and visible roles in AGY as they will spearhead new business development (NBD) on a global basis closing key application developments.
The Global BDM will have a range of responsibilities in application development and industry management.
The Global BDM is accountable for AGY application development results in specific markets and applications to ensure maximum new business growth to meet AGY sales & profit targets. It is anticipated that the individual will have a hands on responsibility for specific application developments as well as a key role in assigned “Strategic Applications”.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Promote AGY philosophy as a “materials solutions” company to end users and channel partners to create a step change in AGY perception in the marketplace as a materials solutions provider.
- Accountable for achieving market focused application development pipeline Sales To New Business (STNB) committed to the Global AGY annual budget.
- Develop compelling and persuasive business cases to drive targeted global new application development opportunities to closure.
- Work with the AGY Business Managers and the Science & Technology group to
- Understand Global NBD opportunities in current and potential markets down to the application level.
- Understand and characterize global markets and application value chains and capitalize on “value opportunities” and potential downstream strategic relationships and activities. Create partnerships for growth.
- Drive the development and closure of assigned AGY “Strategic Applications”.
- Input status of all Global NBD application developments assigned into commercial tracking system to include prospects, application development targets and STNB.
- Through the support of the AGY sales team create, support and drive application development with AGY direct customer base.
- Provide input to the global marketing communications plan for all AGY product lines.
- Contribute to knowledge base of AGY competitive intelligence.
- Develop and drive a budgeted amount of new AGY business by
- Key OEM penetration and target development.
- New product and process introduction
- Translation of AGY current applications to new global markets.
- Maintain and grow a budgeted pipeline of opportunities.
- Track and communicate progress, issues and resources or support needed.
The successful candidate will possess a balance of skills. The primary requirement is a proven track record in application development to successful closure. The ideal individual should have a background in “high performance materials” and a diverse experience base from among these responsibilities: sales, market development and, application development. A composites, plastics, fiber, resins or specialty materials background is required. A successful business development manager with AGY will exhibit most of the following attributes

Knowledge, Skills, Education & Experience:
- 4-year college degree with a BS in a technical field preferred. An MBA is a strong plus
- Ten years experience in a highly complex business with a raw material based technical product line preferably composites
- Strong marketing and technical analytical skills with the ability to make new business development decisions and persuasive recommendations.
- Candidates should have a global business perspective and relevant global experience will be considered a plus. They should possess a passionate drive to achieve success in a global, cross-functional, team-based environment.
- Excellent personal organization skills; an ability to manage concurrent tasks and perform against multiple deadlines
- Proven experience in managing and growing business
- Matrix leadership skills to guide and focus resources on actions and results
- Successful track record of high performance materials application development, preferably with a composites business.
- Proven ability to identify new opportunities, develop creative strategies and drive results.
- Industry application development experience a must.
- Must be a self-starter, taking initiative to drive NBD globally.
- Must be able to travel regularly on a global basis with an approximate travel/office ratio of 60/40.
