AGY Strengthens Commercial
Organization to Focus on Growth

Scott Northrup Named Global Director, New Business Development

AIKEN, S.C., March 21, 2005 – Douglas J. Mattscheck, President and Chief Executive Officer of AGY, today announced a series of changes in the company’s commercial organization to focus on growth. As part of that reorganization, he appointed Scott Northrup as Global Director New Business Development for AGY.

“Identifying and securing profitable growth opportunities is a key objective for the AGY team as we move forward,” said Mattscheck. “To help insure that we are in a position to accomplish this we are revising our commercial organization to provide additional focus on growth.

“Scott’s in-depth knowledge of the AGY products and strong technical background makes him ideally suited for this new leadership role in the AGY commercial team,” said Mattscheck. “In this new role Scott and his team will be responsible for developing new applications in demanding environments as AGY expands its reach into global markets.”

Northrup will report to Drew Walker Vice President, Sales & Marketing, and will work out of the company’s headquarters in Aiken, S.C. Supporting Northrup in his new role will be Bob Varga, New Business Development Manager, Americas, and Xavier Gambert, New Business Development Manager, Europe.

Northrup received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, mathematics and computer science at Heidelberg College, Tiffin, Ohio. He holds a Master of Science degree in chemical engineering from The Ohio State University, Columbus, and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.

Mattscheck said the New Business Development team will work closely with the existing commercial team, which will maintain the direct customer management responsibility, and the Product Management team, which maintains the focus on the market and overall responsibility for pricing and product promotion.

“We are also aligning the commercial team for long-term growth and customer focus internationally,” added Mattscheck. “Kathy Griffin maintains her overall responsibility for the Americas and Customer Service, and Frank Kohlmann is named Director of Sales Europe and the Rest of the World with overall commercial responsibility for Europe and Asia.”

As part of the AGY drive for growth, multifunctional business teams will be set up to capitalize on key strategic applications, new product opportunities and new technologies uncovered from a more-focused new business approach at AGY. With representation from sales, marketing, technology, manufacturing and finance, the new business development teams will manage the company’s base business and focus on identified strategic growth opportunities.
