The
automotive industry uses fiberglass yarn in mufflers and for
producing reinforcing cords for rubber belts and sheets in
such applications as synchronous timing belts. High performance
fibers offer strength, impact resistance, stiffness, temperature
resistance, and fatigue resistance. Fiberglass yarn means
longer life and narrower belts, saving space in engine compartments.
Additionally, the use of fiberglass provides consistent performance
and tension over a wide temperature range, reducing dependence
on complex and expensive auto-tensioning devices.
Applications:
Use of AGY fiberglass yarns in the automotive
market include the following:
Products:
AGY offers high performance S-2 Glass®
fibers for automotive applications.
- 762 S-2 Glass yarn consist of numerous
E or G filament (7 or 9 micron) continuous glass strands,
untwisted and treated with a sizing compatible with various
rubbers.
- ZenTron High Strength roving is a single
end T filament (25 micron) continuous roving treated with
an epoxy compatible and texturizable size system.
