AIKEN, SC USA – (May 30, 2013) – Watching volunteers from AGY roll up their sleeves and
pitch in to clean and refresh their workplace was evidence of the enthusiasm that permeated the
company’s second Annual Spring Cleaning Event on Saturday, May 18th. One hundred and twenty three
volunteers, divided into eleven different teams, completed a broad range of projects including refreshing
the company’s front entrance and grounds, sealing and refinishing the second half of the main parking
lot, and cleaning up functional areas within the plant.
This year’s event included a Prep Day on May 7th for employees who were unable to attend the
Saturday clean-up due to their regularly scheduled shifts. Twenty volunteers took advantage of the
opportunity to assist in cleaning, painting and other prep work for the main event.
With cleanup goals accomplished, volunteers had the chance to relax, and enjoy some excellent
BBQ ribs, chicken, sides and dessert provided by Ronnie Harris, owner of R&L Vending. Adding to the
camaraderie, each volunteer received a T-shirt imprinted with the AGY values of Pride, Performance and
Partnership. Door prizes ranged from gift cards to a 42” flat screen television provided by interim CEO
Richard Jenkins and a 26” flat screen television donated by AGY’s commercial team.
Congressman Joe Wilson, escorted by AGY President Drew Walker, dropped by to meet the
volunteers and view the various improvements they made to the workplace. “The day was a tremendous
success,” observed Richard Jenkins. “Our volunteers once again stepped up to the plate and did an
outstanding job. It is that very dedication that I see day in and day out that makes me most proud of
AGY’s workforce. We hope to continue this event for many years to come.”
